Three ways to put Power BI in front of everyone.
Most organizations weigh the same three options. Here is what each one asks of you, and when Dobler Insights is not the right one.
| Build it yourself on Power BI Embedded | Hire a BI consulting project | Dobler Insights | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you start with | Microsoft's embedding toolkit | A firm that builds it for you | A framework that already exists |
| What gets built for you | Nothing: ingestion, embedding, security and deployment are yours to build | A custom solution for your data | Your reports, on the existing framework |
| Viewers need a Power BI license? | No, with Embedded capacity | Depends on the design | No |
| Row-level security for viewers outside your directory | Possible, if you build it | Possible, if it is in scope | Included, for any sign-in method |
| Spreadsheets and databases brought in | You build the pipeline | Built as part of the project | Included: files and databases, with snapshots and history |
| Time to a first dashboard | Months of engineering | Months of project work | Days, from a spreadsheet |
| Who keeps it running | Your team | You, or the firm on a retainer | Ask us |
When building or hiring is the better choice.
Build it yourself
if you have an engineering team that wants full control of every layer and is ready to maintain it for as long as the reports exist.
Hire a consulting project
if you need a one-time build, and nobody beyond your own licensed Power BI users will ever open the reports.
Choose Dobler Insights
if you need your reports in front of many people, some of them outside your own directory, with each person limited to their own data, and you would rather not build and maintain the delivery and the pipeline behind it.
Choose something else entirely
if what your team wants is self-service exploration in the Tableau or Qlik style. Dobler Insights delivers built reports to many people; it is not an exploration tool.
Compare it on your own data.
The fairest test is a proof of value on one of your own sources. Then you can compare all three on what you have seen.
